The Master of Science in Risk Analytics (MSc-RA) programme, offered by the Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Insurance under the School of Decision Sciences at The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK), held its Programme Orientation for the 2026 cohort on 30 August 2026 (Sunday) at The Chalet, The Langham, Hong Kong. The event brought together new students, faculty members and programme staff for an afternoon of warm welcome, informative sharing and collegial networking.

The orientation commenced at 12:30 pm with an introduction by Dr Ng Wai Leong, Programme Director of the MSc-RA programme, who provided an overview of the School of Decision Sciences, highlighting its development milestones. Following the introduction, a video message from Professor Chan Wai Sum, Dean of the School of Decision Sciences, was presented. In his welcome speech, Professor Chan extended a warm welcome to the new cohort and shared his vision for the programme’s continued growth and excellence.

Dr Siu Chi Chung, Head of the Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Insurance, then delivered the opening remarks, encouraging students to make the most of the learning opportunities ahead and to actively engage with the vibrant academic community at HSUHK.

Dr Ng subsequently gave a detailed programme introduction, covering the programme overview, study plan, class schedule, graduation requirements and the dedicated teaching staff who will guide students throughout their studies. Dr Chen Yongzhao, Associate Programme Director, followed with a session on practical matters, addressing important topics such as work arrangements for student visa holders, the Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates (IANG) scheme, and campus facilities available to postgraduate students.

The event concluded with a group photo session and a buffet lunch, during which students had the opportunity to mingle with fellow classmates and faculty members in a relaxed and convivial setting, fostering a strong sense of community from the very start of their postgraduate journey.

The MSc-RA programme at HSUHK is committed to nurturing the next generation of risk analytics professionals equipped with strong quantitative skills and practical knowledge.
