MSc-INS Professional Talk Series #4 – An Overview of Risk-based Capital, Own Risk and Solvency Assessment, and Group-wide Supervision(16 Nov 2024)
We are delighted to have Mr. Calvin Law, Senior Manager of Group Actuarial Consultancy, AIA Group as the guest speakers on 16 Nov 2024. Mr. Law shared insights on Risk-based Capital (RBC), Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA), and Group-wide Supervision (GWS). He began with an overview of an insurance company’s balance sheet and the importance of regulatory capital requirements, including their development in Hong Kong and the three pillars: quantitative, qualitative, and disclosure requirements. He then introduced ORSA, sharing its purpose, the roles of stakeholders, and the process involved, along with its implications for insurance companies. Finally, he addressed GWS, sharing comparisons with solo supervision and discussing its current landscape in Hong Kong.
