The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII)

The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) is one of the most recognized professional bodies in insurance profession.

BSc (Hons) in Actuarial Studies and Insurance (the Programme) is accredited by the CII, an international body for the insurance profession. Graduates of the Programme are qualified for 75 Diploma credits and 15 Certificate credits. For students who have earned 75 Diploma credits, by taking two compulsory CII examinations, including Insurance Law (M05) and Insurance Business and Finance (M92), they will be awarded the Diploma in Insurance (Dip CII).

AR Charitable Foundation – Chartered Insurance Institute Qualification Examinations Award is available for BSc-AIN students. The Actuarial Society of Hong Kong (ASHK)

The Actuarial Society of Hong Kong (ASHK) is a membership organization for actuaries in the industries of insurance, consultancy, finance, education institutes and government. For more information, please visit: https://www.actuaries.org.hk

The Insurance Authority (IA) expects that a candidate passing the ASHK exam would be one of the acceptable means of satisfying the local knowledge requirement for the approval of all actuaries performing statutory roles.

Scholarship candidates are made by nomination. BSc (Hons) in Actuarial Studies and Insurance Programme students who pass the exam and join the ASHK membership are eligible for the scholarship. The exam fee of HK$1,000 will be waived for each scholarship candidate.

SAS Joint Certificate in Data Mining and SAS Joint Certificate in Machine Learning, SAS Institute

SAS Institute (or SAS) is a worldwide leading producer of business analytics software founded in 1976. SAS developed an analytic software (also called SAS; Statistical Analysis System) for advanced analytics, data management and business intelligence. It is widely used in public and private institutions and organisations such as higher education institutions, investment banks, insurance companies and the Census and Statistics Department in Hong Kong.

As there is an increasing demand for data scientists and business intelligence professionals who are able to apply SAS to analyse business data in order to monitor or manage various concerns within the enterprise, the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Data Science and Business Intelligence (BSc-DSBI) Programme and SAS Institute jointly offer a SAS Joint Certificate in Data Mining and SAS Joint Certificate in Machine Learning to better assist students to work in a data-rich environment.

To be eligible for the certificate, students should have:

(i) passed *5 SAS-based core modules; and

(ii) obtained an average grade of B- or above (i.e. grade point average 2.70 or above) in the modules.

Remarks: Students are allowed to retake a module to attain a higher grade in order to fulfill the award requirements of the certificates. Students should follow the policy of retaking modules stipulated in the Academic Regulations for Undergraduate Programmes.

 

Module Equivalency for SAS Joint Certificates

Students completed similar course/ module at other accredited tertiary institutions or Departments at HSUHK may be considered as equivalent to the SAS- based core modules listed in the certificates.

At most two courses/ modules could be granted module equivalency for each certificate, and equivalent module(s) will be excluded from the calculation of grade point average of the certificate.

 

Application Procedure

Students should submit an Application for SAS Joint Certificates with supporting document(s) to the Programme Office within one calendar week upon the release of examination results of Semester 2 in each academic year.

Programme Office will notify students of the application result by email within three calendar weeks after the application is closed.
