Department Research Seminar: Individual Identification Using Hyperspectral Cameras
The Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Insurance recently organized a research seminar on the topic of “Individual Identification Using Hyperspectral Cameras”. The seminar, held on 24 April 2025, featured Dr. Yuko Ozasa, an Associate Professor from the Graduate School of System Design and Technology, Tokyo Denki University, as the guest speaker.
Dr. Ozasa explores hyperspectral camera technology, which captures both visible and non-visible light, for identifying individuals in scenarios beyond human vision. Originally used in satellite imaging, advancements now enable applications in medicine, agriculture, and chemistry. The speaker highlights cutting-edge uses, such as biometric authentication via hand skin analysis and distinguishing individual penguins for ecological research.
The seminar garnered significant interest, attracting over 55 students and faculty members from the department and beyond. Participants had the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions with Dr. Ozasa, fostering a collaborative environment for further exploration of the topic. We sincerely express our gratitude to Dr. Ozasa for sharing her valuable insights and expertise during the seminar.
