Department Research Seminar: Demand Forecasting in a Large Station-based Bike Sharing System Using Soft Clustering Approach

The Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Insurance recently organized an online research seminar on the topic of “Demand Forecasting in a Large Station-based Bike Sharing System Using Soft Clustering Approach” on 22 February 2024. We are delighted to have Dr. Chin-Sum SHUI, Assistant Professor from the Department of Transportation and Logistics Management at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University as the guest speaker to share his research topic.

Dr. Shui’s presentation focused on the demand forecasting in bike-sharing systems, specifically addressing the accurate alleviation of uneven bike distribution within the system. The seminar showcased the pilot experiment of using the soft clustering technique in estimating station demand for the YouBike 2.0 system in Taipei City. The soft clustering approach is expected to make more informed bike distribution and station management decisions, improving user satisfaction and operational efficiency.

The seminar attracted over 80 students and faculty members to participate. We sincerely express our gratitude to Dr. Shui for sharing his valuable insights and expertise during the seminar.
