The Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Insurance was pleased to organise a research seminar titled “Application of Text Analytics in Compilation of External Merchandise Trade Statistics” on 1 June 2022 via Zoom.
The seminar attracted over 40 students and colleagues to participate. Our guest speakers, Mr. Benjamin Chan (Research Manager), Ms. Natalie Chung (Statistician) and Mr. Ian Ng (Statistician) from the Census and Statistics Department shared the development and application of text analytics in quality checking of trade declarations for compilation of external merchandise trade statistics of Hong Kong.
The guest speakers also introduced the text analytics model and how this model can apply big data analytics in the quality checking of trade documents in order to improve the existing trade processing in terms of efficiency and accuracy.
On the whole, everyone gained a lot from this valuable and fruitful sharing in the trade statistics system of the Census and Statistics Department.
